Accepted Referral Types
You don’t need a referral to see a psychologist, however, having an eligible referral may entitle you to a rebate.
I accept the following referral types:
Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTP) from a GP;
DVA White or Gold card holders with an eligible referral from your GP;
NDIS funding if psychology is specified in your plan;
Complex Neurodevelopmental assessment referrals from a paediatrician or psychiatrist for individuals under 25. This is a very specific referral that allows for small rebates on some assessment items;
Private health insurance - if you have extras cover included in your policy, you may be able to claim a rebate (if you haven’t claimed under another funding source like Medicare). Please ask for the item numbers relevant to your service so you can check with your fund about rebates specific to your policy;
Overseas Student Health Care (OSHC) - if you have an eligible referral from your GP. Please check with your fund about rebates specific to your insurance cover;
Victim Support ACT - I am a provider with VSACT and can accept referrals made directly by VSACT only;
If you have any other type of referral type not listed here, please get in touch.
What to Expect
Therapy: What to Expect
Initial contact
If you’re new here, please make contact via email or telephone.
It is helpful to provide a brief overview of why they are seeking support to determine whether Mareeva Psychology is a good fit for you. Please also see my areas of experience under Services.
Booking an appointment
The easiest way to book an appointment is to email with your preferred day and time of day.
Mareeva Psychology is open Monday through Friday and 9AM to 5PM, unless otherwise agreed in extenuating circumstances.
Please note the type of referral you have, if any. This allows for the right intake form to be emailed.
Before the first appointment
Before your first appointment, you’ll complete an online intake form and read and sign your consent. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask.
Your first appointment
The initial session focuses on assessment and information gathering rather than treatment. You can expect to be about:
• What led you to seek therapy
• What you hope to achieve
• Background information such as when the issue began, what changes you’d like to make, what supports are in place, and what strategies you’ve tried.
Time at the end of the session is dedicated to discussing a plan moving forward and how you’d like to prioritise your goals.
NDIS participants will also discuss their needs, preferred frequency of sessions, and a service agreement—usually toward the end of the first session.
How many sessions will be needed?
The number of sessions you’ll need varies depending on the complexity of your concerns and how you respond to therapy. Some individuals attend short‑term therapy focused on specific goals, while others prefer longer‑term support.
Telehealth for new clients
If you are a new client seeking a Telehealth or telephone appointment, you will be asked to provide credit card details or make upfront payment.
